Ride named for flying horse to land
at Sandwich fair
If construction and shipping go as planned, a ride called Pegasus will debut in North America at the Sandwich Fair. It’ll be one
of more than 50 rides and games brought in by North American
Midway.
Pegasus, named for a flying horse in ancient tales, takes 30 people at a time up to 55 feet in the air and twirls them around 12
times per minute. From the riders’ perspective, the fairgrounds
and sky spin all around while their feet dangle in the open air.
If that’s too much movement, there’s also the somewhat milder Tilt-a-Whirl. And relaxing spins on the Ferris wheel. For the
youngest riders, there’s Kiddle Land.
Blake Huston with North American Midway says Kiddie Land is
on the east end of the fairgrounds, keeping rides for the youngest children in one area. “It gives parents a little more ease
without having to worry about the hustle and bustle that surrounds the rides for the teenagers and adults,” he says.
Mary Curran
The Sandwich Fair community fondly
remembers Mary Curran, 79, of Sandwich,
who passed away on December 13, 2024.
A lifelong resident of Sandwich, Mary
was known for her warmth, dedication,
and deep love for family and community.
Mary taught in Sandwich schools and,
with her husband Jim, raised three
children in a home filled with love, laughter, and countless
adventures.
Many fairgoers will remember Mary’s welcoming smile and kind
spirit from her many years working in the Round Office at the
Sandwich Fair. Her presence and service there left a lasting
impression, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Norma Jean Swenson
Huston recommends parents measure how tall their children
are so they know which rides their kids can go on. They can
check the list of height requirements and do some planning so
they buy tickets they can use.
The Sandwich Fair community honors the
life of Norma Jean (Osmond) Swenson,
97, who passed away on June 24, 2024.
Born in Ottawa and raised in Serena
Norma married Clarion Swenson in 1945.
Together, they built a life of love and hard
work on their Somonauk farm, sharing
nearly 77 wonderful years of marriage.
Wristbands are sold online at a discount before the fair begins.
Customers get tickets to redeem for wristbands to go on all
the rides at the fair. The wristbands are available at kiosks in
two spots at the fair—Kiddle Land and the main midway.
Huston says ride prices are the same as last year. He says
that’s to keep
the fair affordable and family-friendly.
“We’re committed to providing great entertainment
and value for
the community.”
Norma Jean was a woman of many
talents—an accomplished quilter, seamstress, organist, and
gardener. She was never afraid to lend a hand, whether behind
the wheel of a tractor or running for parts. She proudly worked
over 30 years at the Sandwich Fair, where her dedication and
friendly spirit became part of the fair’s fabric. Norma also
drove a school bus, managed a local thrift shop, and cherished
traveling with her daughter.
Her legacy of creativity, kindness, and service will be deeply
missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
