Illinois farm families continue to wear their pride on their sleeves with more than 96% of
the state’s roughly 70,000 farms categorized as family-owned and operated. In 2024,
soybean yields set a new state record: 688 million bushels harvested across 10.75 million
acres, averaging about 64 bushels per acre and Illinois proudly remains the nation’s
#1 soybean producer. Corn production also stayed strong, with total output around
2.31 billion bushels at 217 bushels per acre on about 10.65 million acres. At the same time,
farms averaged about 466 acres, a slight uptick from the prior year, suggesting steady
growth among established family operations. These numbers reflect the grit, resilience,
and precision that run through multigenerational bonds, fields turned over with care, and
family teams working side by side toward harvest.
